Afghan news anchor and activist Malalai Maiwand was killed along with her driver in Jalalabad city as they travelled to work. The female journalist, whose activist mother was also killed by unknown armed men five years ago, had previously spoken about the difficulties of being a reporter under the ultra-conservative patriarchal system of Afghanistan.
